Farm environment planning

Farm environment plans are tools for managing environmental risk. They help you recognise potential threats to the natural environment, create actions to manage and mitigate those risks, and comply with regulations.

Effective farm environmental planning leads to better informed decision-making, which can improve both the profitability and long-term viability of your farm.

Waikato Regional Council encourages you to make use of our online courses, which build understanding of key environmental planning concepts and how they apply to farm environment plans. These resources specifically refer to regional and national regulations, Waikato Plan Change 1 (PC1) and Freshwater Farm Plans, explaining what they mean for Waikato farmers.

The first course introduces PC1, explaining why we need it, and where and when it applies. The second course focuses on freshwater farm plans and introduces key topics that inform the plans for Waikato farmers and growers. This course targets plan developers and certifiers with a small annual cost to register for this purpose ($80). But anyone can use the course to learn ways to protect precious freshwater environments (reduced to $20).
